Proper workstation Setup

Do you have a multi-user Version of IRis, and you have a problem opening IRis on some of your workstations?

Check Workstation setup:

1. Go to IRis, "Options", "Show System Statistic"

2. IRis version should be 2.3. If not, you can update it for free on our website:

    http://www.suncoastprograms.com

3. If the "Current Directory" is loading from the network drive (other than C:\), the   "Configuration

File" and the "Resource File" should be reading from the C:\ IRISUSER directory.

Here is a direction how to set up Workstation:

1. Open Windows Explorer, select local C:\ drive

2. Select "FILE", "NEW", "FOLDER" from the menu

3. Type "IRISUSER" for the new folder name

4. Open IRis, go to Supervisor Menu

5. Select "SETUPS" from the menu

6. Select "NETWORK OPTIONS".

7. Select "NEW WORKSTATION SETUP"

8. Select "Directory to copy user files to".

9. Find the C:\IRISUSER folder and select it.

10. Select "OK" at the reminder screen.

11. Select "Copy Files Now" (Note: The files that are copied from the main IRis

directory to the local C:\IRISUSER directory are: Config.fpw, FoxUser.dbf, FoxUser.fpt)

12. Exit IRis

13. Select "START", "RUN".

14. Type "SYSEDIT" at the RUN command.

15. Type the following SET command in the AutoExec.bat file:

16. SET FOXPROWCFG=C:\IRISUSER\CONFIG.FPW

17. Select "FILE", then "SAVE" from the menu.

18. Select "START", "SHUT DOWN". Then restart the machine

Workstation setup for Windows 2000 and Windows XP

3. Type "IRISUSER" for the new folder name

4. Open IRis, go to Supervisor Menu

5. Select "SETUPS" from the menu

6. Select "NETWORK OPTIONS".

7. Select "NEW WORKSTATION SETUP"

8. Select "Directory to copy user files to".

9. Find the C:\IRISUSER folder and select it.

10. Select "OK" at the reminder screen.

11. Select "Copy Files Now" (Note: The files that are copied from the main IRis

directory to the local C:\IRISUSER directory are: Config.fpw, FoxUser.dbf, FoxUser.fpt)

12. Exit IRis

IRis 2.x requires the presence of the environment variable FOXPROWCFG when being configured for a multi-user environment.  In earlier versions of Windows, a modification to the autoexec.bat creates and sets this variable.  Windows 2000 does not use the file autoexec.bat.  However, there are 2 methods to creating this variable:

            METHOD ONE:

a)      From the start menu, select “Settings” and then “Control Panel”

b)      Click on the “System” icon in the control panel window.

c)      Click on the “Advanced” tab of the “System Properties” window. (Note: you can also right click on My Computer, and then select “Properties” to get to this step.)

d)      Click on the button labeled “Environment Variables”

e)      If the IRis installed on this computer is to be used by only one user, you may create the variable for that user only (the top portion of the screen.)  If, however, one or more users will be using this workstation, it is preferred to create a system variable.

f)      Underneath the “System Variables” list, click the “New” button:

g)      For the variable name, enter “FOXPROWCFG”

h)      For the variable value, enter “C:\IRisUser\config.fpw” where “C:\IRisUSer\ is the location of the folder created on the workstation to store temporary files.

            METHOD TWO:

                a)      Edit the file AutoExec.nt

b)      Add the command:

SET FOXPROWCFG=”C:\IRISUSER\CONFIG.FPW”

                c)   Select "FILE", then "SAVE" from the menu.

14. Select "START", "SHUT DOWN", and restart the machine

#1 Tech Tip

Q We just bought a new server. What is the best way to move IRis from the existing server to the new one?

A With IRis 2.3, all you need to do (after setting up the new server) is: Go to the IRis folder on the old server, R-click on it, select Copy, navigate to the correct drive on the new server, R-click and choose Paste.
